Career Exploration and Skill Development
MIYF works to develop social capital within communities by educating youth on social norms and expectations in different professional environments e.g. appropriate dress for a corporate office or professional communication in the work place. MIYF teaches the principles of respect, the art of communicating effectively and effective methods of expression, responsibility and ultimately finding and achieving individual life purpose.
MIYF provides mentorship programming that educates youth on how to solve problems effectively in groups and individually. These programs encourage an understanding of the importance of high self-esteem and self-confidence and provide exercises that help participants to increase these over the course of their involvement with the organization.
MIYF’s Center for Intercultural Learning and Talent Development (CILTD) works to develop the richness of communities through the appreciation of different cultures and by providing youth and young adults the opportunity to explore new endeavors or career paths that may be unknown to them. CILTD helps youth to develop and discover skills in the areas of music, dance and other cultural performances. CILTD works to provide youth with the opportunity to travel to other cities/states/countries around the world in order to expose them to new environments.
MIYF provides both youth and adults the opportunity to participate in drum therapy. We work closely with certified drum therapists to present workshops on traditional African drumming. These activities help participants to learn to manage stress and anxiety successfully and in an appropriate outlet.
MIYF works to collect and distribute clothing to communities in rural West Africa and also supports students in these same communities by providing important school supplies. MIYF also partners with other non-profits to build and renovate schools in these same villages.
